The prompt for this week’s 100-Word Challenge for Grownups is one word — Harvest.  Julia challenges us to write 100 words about this prompt, without using the actual word, Harvest.  Here is my submission:

No one who isn’t here can possibly understand what this means.  I feared this moment all my life, though I rarely acted to prevent it. Regardless of how I got here, though, I am here now, and I am scared witless.

If I am scared, I can only guess how anxious and frightened my sister is.  The procedure is much more difficult and painful for her, and I regret being part of the cause of that pain.

The nurse from the next room walks through the swinging door, holding the kidney in her hands.  My regret mixes with overwhelming gratitude.
